Anna Viola Sborgi, King’s College London

Anna Viola Sborgi is a Film Studies graduate student and teaching assistant at King’s College London. Her current research project focuses on representations of the urban regeneration of East London in screen media. She previously completed a PhD in Interviste/Entrevistas/Entretiens/Interviews N. 19 – 05/2018 180 Comparative Literature at the University of Genoa, Italy, in 2007. Her research has focused on film and television and on the relationships between literature and visual culture. She has published journal articles and presented at conferences on different subjects, from British film and television to literary and visual portraiture in Modernism. She co-chairs the Space and Place workgroup at NECS (European Network for Cinema and Media Studies).

Lawrence Napper, King’s College London

Lawrence Napper is Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at King’s College London. He is a leading expert in British cinema and has taught at King's College London for 10 years. Among his teaching specialisms are Silent Cinema, Hollywood Musicals and British National Cinema. He devised the summer school course 'London on Film' in 2009 and that course still runs successfully at KCL. In addition, he has taught on London on Film as part of the University of California London Programme. His publications include British Cinema and Middlebrow Culture in the Interwar Years (Exeter: University of Exeter Press, 2009) and The Great War and British Popular Cinema in the 1920s (London: Palgrave, 2015). He has contributed numerous articles and book chapters, including articles on London musicals for the Journal of Popular British Cinema and Television (2009) and for Steven Cohan (ed) The Sound of Musicals (2010). Lawrence’s research interests range from: British cinema and popular culture before 1970, silent cinema, film adaptation and cross media connections, musicals, film archiving, representations of the 1914-18 war.
