In his writings, Vladimir Vertlib focuses on topics such as being a stranger in a foreign country. In particular, his novel Zwischenstationen shows how binary oppositions like the ownness and otherness, as well as prejudices, have an impact on the identity of individuals. Taking into account theories of space originating from the spatial turn, this essay investigates the ways in which the protagonists of the novel change their identity. It will be argued that binary oppositions are always constructs which have to be critically examined.Downloads
