Mario Mieli

The fourth issue of Balthazar will be dedicated to the thought of Mario Mieli (1952-1983), radical writer and activist, one of the founders of the first Italian homosexual liberation movement (F.U.O.R.I.), on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his birth.

The thought of Mieli, too often only partially known or uncritically mythicized, was able to bring a complex and articulated analysis of heterosexuality - meant as the common matrix of the oppression of women and homosexuals - along with a radical critique of the way of production, both material and psychic, of the capitalist system. Let’s not forget the artistic dimension, an aspect always present in Mario Mieli’s life, together with the philosophical and political engagement.

On the basis of this perspective, we thus invite scholars from different fields to submit papers engaging one of the following topics:

- Sexual liberation theory;

- Critique of patriarchy;

- Critique of capitalism;

- Connections with the feminist movements;

- Mario Mieli and psychoanalysis ;

- Theatre, literature and poetry.
