The transformative capacity of culture: the experience of theater by the Compagnia della Fortezza in the Volterra prison

Abstract

This article aims to dwell upon the role of theatre in building a culture of lawfulness throughout the analysis of the theatrical experience of Compagnia della Fortezza, founded in the prison of Volterra at the end of the 1980s. By identifying the distinctive features of this form of theatre the paper aims to propose some reflections on the transformative power of culture within a complex context such as the prison one.
