Abstract

The paper aims at investigating pivotal issues concerning theatre translation through the analysis of Translations (1980) by Brian Friel and its Italian translation Traduzioni(1996). With its core themes on matters such as the passage from Gaelic into English in 19th century Ireland and cultural untranslability, the well-known play Translations encapsulates decisive matters concerning the translation of drama and plays. The paper thus explores how such controversial questions emerge in the Italian translation with specific reference to the naming process.
