Abstract

Didactics for research: the case of History of French Language teachings at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Turin (1966-1980)

This article aims to trace the first twenty years of the History of French Language teaching at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at the University of Turin. After a brief survey of the studies carried out by the founder of the professorship (Franco Simone) and the teachers who animated it (Lionello Sozzi and Gianni Mombello), we will present the results obtained from the analysis of the course programs and the titles of the degree theses between 1966 and 1980. The investigation leads to a double conclusion. On the one hand, we observe the prevalence of a diachronic didactic approach to the discipline, influenced by international criticism; on the other hand, we see a close relationship between teaching and scientific research as a typical feature of the Turin school, where theoretical courses alternated with workshops which introduced unpublished works by little-known authors.
