Abstract

Starting from the assumption that digital competence and the popularity of virtual environments are in constant growth, the article explores and evaluates on-line education for Italian LS and L2. A study that aims to be a definitive analysis of what the network offers to all levels of language proficiency would be inconsistent, with the risk of sounding contradictory, considering the "mobility" of the web and the vastness of the field. We decided, therefore, to restrict the scope of observation to the needs of users with a target level of A2/B1 language proficiency, presumably those who take advantage of  self-directed learning educational offerings. Based on the sample of users taken under consideration, some sites considered particularly significant for the variety, quantity and quality of their offerings and their resonance in the search engines were analyzed. The direct analysis of the selected sites is summed up a table which summarizes the main features: a survey simple tool that analyzes the structure of the site, the way  the materials are offered and language skills that can be developed with the aid of the educational courses offered. Among the objectives of this work was to provide a fundamental methodological framework to the teacher to track Italian L2/LS so that s/he can compile a collection of websites of reference material and supplementary activities to use in class.
