Abstract

«A bunch of different things». The classification of objects in post-Unitarian grammar books

The purpose of the article is to study the category of objects in scholastic Italian grammars from the post-Unitarian period. Initial focus is on the analysis of simple sentences contained in school programs and in ministerial papers from the second half of the 19th century, which agree in condemning the use of overly rigid, mnemonic definitions and taxonomies, but which were often disregarded. The second part centers on the grammar book by Luigi Morandi and Giulio Cappuccini (1894), including comparison between the two editions published for primary and secondary schools.
