Abstract

New models of multiliteracy in multilingual classes: theoretical reflections and educational implications in US higher education

In this article we examine the current debate developed in the U.S. on the concept of literacy in multilingual study contexts and the consequent emergence of new literacy-based models with a socio-cultural matrix. The possible implications of using such models in university contexts in the US will be analyzed. To this end, the results of a project aimed at the implementation of a multiliteracy-based framework for the development of multilingual skills and the transfer of basic skills into multilingual classes of Italian L2 will be described.
