Abstract

The word for everyone. The language of biblical translations in italian language in the 16th and early 17th centuries

As is well known, the Protestant Reformation led to many Bible translations. In Italy, after the editions by the Humanist Antonio Brucioli, the main and virtually exclusive center for Bibles in the vernacular was Geneva, a Calvinist stronghold with a prosperous typographical market. In this article we review the most peculiar linguistic aspects of the translations of the Holy Scriptures into Italian published during the Sixteenth and the beginning of the Seventeenth Centuries.
