Abstract

Grammar (why, when and how) and textual practice

The frame of reference is that of a learner who combines learning L2 with L1 (maternal and surrounding society).  However, the discussion is carried out within the context of L1, because without mastery of use and knowledge reflected in the grammatical and textual mechanisms, L2 learning does not find the right terrain.  Another prerequisite is a 10-year educational course (duration of obligatory schooling) with results that meet needs imposed by complex societies.  In relation to these premises, the time for literacy (to be intensively treated in primary education) is strongly distinguished from the time for knowledge that reflects grammatical mechanisms and textual processes.  They are both based on MODELS that today considered more scientific and productive, namely: valency grammar, which leads to the best representation of a sentence, as an entity of the SYSTEM of the language;  as well as communication agreement between the issuer and the receiver, as a factor that regulates the shape of the different types of TEXTS intended for more rigid interpretation (if closer to the forms of the system) or more elastic (if different from them).
