Un nuovo volume del Catalogue Général des Antiquités Égyptiennes du Musée du Caire da un documento inedito degli Archivi di Egittologia dell'Università degli Studi di Milano

Bernard V. Bothmer (1912-1993) è considerato uno dei più importanti esperti di arte egizia. Al termine della sua vita, egli preparò delle schede su un gruppo di cinquanta statue di privati del Nuovo Regno e del Terzo Periodo Intermedio provenienti dalla cachette di Karnak e conservate al Museo Egizio del Cairo, per un volume del Catalogue Général che sfortunatamente non fece in tempo a completare. Questa documentazione inedita è oggi conservata presso gli Archivi di Egittologia dell’Università degli Studi di Milano, fondati nel 1999 da Patrizia Piacentini, che acquisirono gli archivi dello studioso nel 2008. Dal 2023 ho potuto lavorare ai documenti di Bothmer, revisionandoli, aggiornandoli espandendoli e integrandoli con uno studio epigrafico originale di tutte le iscrizioni. Il progetto si è rivelato un’opportunità di dialogo fra istituzioni egittologiche internazionali (in particolare, l’Ifao, il Museo Egizio del Cairo e l’Università di Milano). Questo articolo intende fornire un resoconto dei principali risultati dello studio sui documenti di Bothmer e sulla preparazione di un nuovo volume del Catalogue Général (N. 42301-42350), presentando alcuni casi studio da un punto di vista epigrafico, artistico e storico.
