Peer Review Process
The Editor first evaluates all manuscripts. Editor can accept the paper, rarely, at this stage. Those rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, have poor grammar or English language, or are outside the aims and scope of the journal. Those that meet the minimum criteria are passed on to at least 2 experts for review. Considering that the Journal accepts manuscripts from different medical and surgical specialities, the works will be evaluated by experts of the field. This journal does not welcome suggestions for reviewers from the author.
Other specialists and different specialized figures as statisticians will be involved in the review process when appropriate. This journal employs double blind review, where the reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout the process. Authors are invited to remove all the informations that could permit their identification. Manuscript with this information will be rejected without peer-review.
Reviewers are matched to the paper according to their expertise and skills.
Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript for:
- Appropriate ethical guidelines
- Results which are clearly presented and support the conclusions
- Referenced correctly to previous relevant work
A statement is expected from the reviewer for each of these aspects.
Reviewers are not expected to correct or copyedit manuscripts. Language correction can be suggested but is not part of the peer review process. The editors promote the correction of the manuscripts using a professional service or mother tongue specialist before submission to the journal.
The final decision is up to the editor in chief, after the recommendations by the reviewers and could be:
1- Accept as it is: The manuscript is of interest and respects all the rules of the journal.
2 - Minor revisions needed: The manuscript is of interest, but needs some not relevant changes to be accepted
3 - Major revisions: The manuscript has limits regarding the structure and the contents. Substantial changes are required to author for considering it for acceptance.
4 - Reject: The manuscript has severe limits and cannot be accepted for publication.
Code of conduct
Authors, editors, and reviewers must respect the best practice in publication ethics.
Authors are expected to be aware of, and comply with, best practice in publication ethics specifically but not limited to authorship (for example avoidance of ghost or guest authorship), dual submission, plagiarism, manipulation of figures, competing interests and compliance with policies on research ethics.
