AI, as a tool, straddles the boundaries of technology, ethics, sociology and law. This article begins by outlining some widely accepted definitions of artificial intelligence in the technical field, before tracing a path from the construction of AI models to building trust and attempting to humanise AI systems. These systems are based on innovative mathematical and statistical responses to provide answers that are as 'human' and trustworthy as possible. Trust is a fundamental element of interpersonal relationships, particularly in the third sector. While the use of AI systems offers great potential, it also raises questions about the trust placed in them.
