Abstract

The Author, Director of the Laboratory of Zoology applied to Hunting of Bologna University, gives a full report on the ringing scheme and the Bird-Observatories in Italy. Practically, after the last war, the Bird-Observatories still in function are: Pisa, Genoa, Ancona and Mesola. Their activity is, however, reduced. The main activity of these observatories is the ringing of quails for hunting purposes, what allows also for'. a good deal of scientific observations. Recently new Ornithoiogical Stations have been settled in two localities one in Sicily, the other one in Sardinia. The Author adds some personal considerations on the present status of the ornithological studies in Italy which- he says - are very still and do not get full use of the chances offered: by the Bird-Observatories. Prof.Toschi thinks this is due to the lack of Ornithological Societies like the foreign ones, as well as of cooperation between professional and amateur bird-students.
