Abstract

This article deals with the modes of representation of torture in the science fiction novel by Chilean writer Claudio Jaque El ruido del tiempo (1987), paying special attention to the analysis of the diverse and proliferating modes that, in the framework of a revolt against a totalitarian regime, the rebels develop to resist the torments and succeed in defeating power.

Macarena Areco, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Macarena Areco is a journalist, graduated, master and phd in Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She published around sixty articles and book chapters on 20th century and contemporary chilean and hispanic-americas narrative. She is an associate professor of the Facultad de Letras de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She is the author of the books Cartografía de la novela chilena reciente (2015), Acuarios y fantasmas. Imaginarios de espacio y de sujeto en la narrativa argentina, chilena y mexicana reciente (2017) y Bolaño constelaciones: literatura, sujetos territorios (2020) and co-editor with Patricio Lizama of Biografía y textualidades, naturaleza y subjetividad. Ensayos sobre la obra de María Luisa Bombal (2015).
