Abstract

In the contemporary technological landscape, Artificial Intelligence has established itself as a transformative force, reshaping many aspects of our lives. This contribution aims to reflect on the relationship between AI and humans, emphasizing the need for the most correct use that guarantees its ethical use. Rather than viewing AI as an inevitable force that acts alone and decides for us, we want to argue for the need to reposition humanity at the center. This anthropocentric view (in line with the European AI Regulation) recognizes it as a tool at the service of man. The aim is to highlight how the Third Sector, with its intrinsic values of human dignity, solidarity, and social justice, can act as an ethical beacon for the application of AI that goes beyond mere efficiency. While the potential of AI for operational optimization in the Third Sector is undeniable, it is intended to warn of the risks of dehumanization, increased inequalities, and loss of accountability if efficiency prevails over ethical goals. The challenge is, therefore, to harness the instrumental reason of AI to serve the “Moral Practical Reason” of the Third Sector, ensuring that technology elevates humanity without undermining its fundamental values.
