Call for Papers – Vol. 2 No. 1 (2027) | Coding, Decoding, and Recoding the Mona Lisa
Artology: Studies in the Arts is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for a monographic issue to be published in December 2027, guest-edited by Prof. Lanfranco Aceti (Museum of Contemporary Cuts), on the theme "Coding, Decoding, and Recoding the Mona Lisa."
Leonardo's portrait has been copied, parodied, politicised, digitised and computationally reconstructed without ever being exhausted. The issue takes it as a test case for a larger question: how an image can remain recognisable while its code is continuously transformed — and what that suggests about media that become dormant rather than extinct.
The issue also invites contributions for an open section (Research Articles, Visual Essays, or Shorter Interventions) for high-quality scholarship on any topic within the journal's scope.

Call for Papers – Vol. 2 No. 1 (2027) | Aesthetic Habits: Intercultural Perspectives between Europe and China
Artology: Studies in the Arts is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for a monographic issue to be published in December 2027, guest-edited by Prof. Alessandro Bertinetto (University of Turin), on the theme "Aesthetic Habits: Intercultural Perspectives between Europe and China."
The issue treats habits not as mechanical repetitions but as plastic, intelligent dispositions, and asks what happens to them when intercultural encounters displace the expectations they carry.
The issue also invites contributions for an open section (Research Articles, Visual Essays, or Shorter Interventions) for high-quality scholarship on any topic within the journal's scope.
