Call for Papers - Vol 2. Issue 1 | Transgression Before Modernism: Artistic Defiance Across Periods and Regions

Artology: Studies in the Arts is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the first issue of its second volume (Vol. 1, No. 2, 2026). This monographic edition, guest-edited by Prof. Martin J. Powers (包华石) (Peking University), is dedicated to the theme "Transgression Before Modernism: Artistic Defiance Across Periods and Regions."

The issue also invites contributions for an open section (Research Articles, Visual Essays, or Shorter Interventions) for high-quality scholarship on any topic within the journal’s scope.

• Publication: August, 2027
• Format: Chicago 18 (notes and bibliography), double-blind peer review, English language
• Diamond Open Access: No fees for authors or readers

Artology: Studies in the Arts is pleased to announce an extension for the submission deadline for our inaugural issue. To allow scholars and artists more time to engage with the themes of our special symposium and our open section, the new deadline for all submissions is now August 30, 2026.
