About the Journal

Publication frequency and accessibility

The journal is published annually in print, with release scheduled by December each year. Starting from 2025 (volume 151), it is also available on this platform in Diamond Open Access, with no charges for either readers or authors. Selected earlier volumes will gradually be made available here under the same access conditions.
Tables of contents and analytical indexes (from 1874 onward) are available on the website of the Società Storica Lombarda. The Fondazione Istituto Internazionale di Storia economica “F. Datini” provides the indexing of the annual issues.

Articles are available in PDF format through the Digital Periodicals Archive of the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense (with access by title, author, or year of publication) and through the OPAC of the Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale (with access by author or title) for the period 1874–2001. The digitization of the entire collection in searchable full text is currently underway.

Editorial bodies

The journal is managed in such a way as to ensure its autonomy and the scholarly value of its contents. The Editorial Board and the Scientific Advisory Committee are composed of members selected on the basis of their academic qualifications, without discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, age, ethnic origin, religious belief, political views, or nationality.  The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the Editorial Board. Positions are not subject to limits on the number of consecutive terms. The governing bodies are revised whenever a member leaves their position or when changes are required to broaden the expertise of the body itself.

Submission languages

Italian, English, French, Spanish.

Peer-Review Process

Submitted articles undergo an initial screening by the Editorial Board, followed by a double-blind review carried out by two referees selected from among specialists external to both the Editorial Board and the Scientific Advisory Committee. Contributions intended for the sections “Note e documenti” and “Rerum Scriptores” are subject only to internal review.
Referees are normally given two months to read, assess, and provide their reports. If reviewers recommend corrections or revisions, the publication timeline is extended accordingly. The list of reviewers is published on this website every two years.
The Code of Ethics provides guidelines for the various parties involved in the peer-review process. Responsibility for all decisions rests with the Editorial Board and, ultimately, with the Editor-in-Chief.
