This is the Italian translation of two Bakhtin’s texts written in the period 1944-1945 as preparatory notes to a work on Gustave Flaubert. Differently from what it has been often supposed in the past decades, these pages reveal how important Flaubert was for Bakhtin. Among the many reasons of interest of these texts, two are noteworthy; the first one is the reflection on the role of the animals in literature in relation to the Flaubertian theme of bêtise (a reflection which contains theoretical remarks very similar to the ones debated in the most recent literature on the argument); connected with the first one, the second reason of interest of these texts lies in the call for the “possibility of a totally different view of the world”, a view that allows the “curving” of space and time as a premise for the novelistic word.
