Abstract

Multilingualism and intercomprehension: an analysis of materials Eurom5 (using the Littlejohn framework)

This article offers the reader an example of analysis of EuRom5, a manual and website dedicated to Intercomprehension, designed for the study of one or more L2 of the romance family (Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, French). This is a revised edition (2011) of EuRom4 updated to include the Catalan language. Through the framework of Andrew Littlejohn, specifically designed for the analysis of educational materials according to tasks rather than their practical implementation in the classroom, I have examined the structure of the manual in three main stages: Objective Description, Subjective Description and Subjective Inference. As a result I offer a in-depth understanding of its structure, of the dynamics underlying its use and of the correspondence between intended tasks and their practical execution.
