Abstract

Studying the work of restoration undertaken by Mauro Pellicioli along with the Istituto Centrale del Restauro, between 1947 and 1953, it seemed to me impossible to interpret the choices made without putting them into a broader perspective. The contribution therefore aims to investigate the links between the moment of restoration and the critical reinterpretation of Leonardo’s art carried out after the Second World War; the connections between the technical choices taken on the body of the painting and the visual languages of contemporaneity, including cinema; the mutual interactions between the recovery of a masterpiece ruled by the passions of the human soul and the need to regain confidence in human beings.
