The aim of this essay is to examine the remaining evidence concerning the dispute that took place between the γένος of Krokonidai and that of Koironidai. Analyzing the information handed down by lexicographers and by those orators who probably spoke in defense of each different stock, it is possible to make some conjectures about the reconstruction of the argument which most likely dealt with the claim of religious privileges in the Eleusinian cult. Probably the dispute brought to two different lawsuits: certainly a διαδικασíα and maybe a δίκη ἐξούλης as well. If on the one hand we don’t know how the dispute ended, on the other we know that Krokonidai had more prestige than their rival family.
