La production éditoriale de Benoît Rigaud et son catalogue chevaleresque

Abstract
La présente contribution se propose d’enquêter sur l’imprimeur-libraire Benoît Rigaud à la fois par le biais d’une étude de sa production globale et par une analyse portant sur ses impressions chevaleresques. Benoît Rigaud est l’un des éditeurs les plus prolifiques du XVIe siècle français, avec une activité qui s’étend sur plus que 40 ans et avec 1500 impressions environ. Entre 1572 et 1597, Rigaud publie de nombreux romans de chevalerie, à la fois médiévaux et renaissants, et devient l’un des imprimeurs les plus influents du marché chevaleresque de la fin du siècle. Après un préambule sur la réception des romans de chevalerie au XVIe siècle, la vaste production de Rigaud fait l’objet d’une analyse quantitative, avant que ne soit analysée la production des récits de chevalerie. Les données récoltées permettent de tirer des conclusions sur la dynamique éditoriale du genre chevaleresque ainsi que sur sa réception dans la seconde moitié du XVIe siècle.
This research seeks to shed light on the publisher Benoît Rigaud both through a study of his global production and an analysis of his chivalry printed books. Benoît Rigaud is one of the most productive publishers of 16th century France, with an activity covering more than 40 years, years during which he printed around 1500 books. Moreover, between 1572 and 1597, Rigaud printed many chivalry romances, both medieval and modern texts, so that he became one of the main publishers of chivalry literature of that period. In this research, after some short remarks upon the reception of chivalry romances in 16th century, the large production of Rigaud is subject to a quantitative analysis. Then, his production of chivalry romances is studied more in detail. The collected data lead us to draw conclusions on the dynamic of the chivalry genre as well as on his reception in the second half of the 16th century.
