About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Open Access series of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Milan State University (www.unimi.it), di/segni offers books available to view online and download in E-Pub format for free. Books are also available for purchase in print format. We promote research in English, French, German, Spanish, Scandinavian and Slavic studies, both in their European and extra-European dimension. We publish monographs, brief essays and collections of essays occasioned by conferences or research workshop held in Italy or abroad. In this way, we aim to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge ensuring the wide circulation of our professors and young researchers’ studies. Our volumes are the result of a strict process of selection and control. Sharing the results of our research, we aim to increase the international visibility of our department, to foster dialogue with our peers and collaborations in the field of digital publishing and to release information to the wider society.
We subscribe to the 2003 Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities and to the 2004 Messina Declaration promoted by the CRUI to support open access to academic publications.
Peer Review Process
All submissions are subject to double blind peer review. The two reviewers are typically a member of our editorial board (or a professor in our department appointed by the board) and an appropriate external expert (Italian or foreign) appointed by the board. The board will request a further review if the two default reviews substantially disagree.
- For volumes of collected papers (e.g. conference proceedings) di/segni relies on the editors’ evaluations, which must be approved in a meeting of the board.
- For reprints, the board’s favourable opinion and the former publisher’s acquittance are sufficient.
- Proposals that have not been commissioned by the board or that have not been submitted by one of its members are presented to the board. If the proposal is accepted for submission and its subject exceeds the competences of the board’s members, the review process is taken up by two external expert (Italian or foreign).
Our peer review process aims to guarantee the scientific quality of our publications. There are no limitations on language sections. We particularly welcome submissions in languages other than Italian.
