About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Italian Journal of Toxicology (Giornale Italiano di Tossicologia) is the scientific journal and official publication of the Italian Society of Toxicology (Società Italiana di Tossicologia). It serves as a tool and channel for communication and information between SITOX and all those—members and non-members alike—who are interested in the field of Toxicology.
Peer Review Process
The journal publishes editorials, standard articles, reviews, preliminary reports, short communications, expert opinions, case reports, and letters to the editor on topics related to the field of Toxicology.
All submitted manuscripts undergo an internal editorial review to assess their originality, scientific value, methodological validity, and relevance to the objectives and scope of the Italian Journal of Toxicology. The journal follows a single-blind peer review process. The evaluation is conducted primarily by members of the editorial board with the assistance of expert reviewers in the field. The editor-in-chief has the final and binding authority on all editorial decisions. Manuscripts are generally reviewed directly by members of the editorial board; however, when specific expertise is required, experts may be consulted and asked to provide independent opinions. The journal does not guarantee acceptance and reserves the right to reject manuscripts at any stage of the review process, including desk rejection.
Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewers’ comments and suggestions. The typical revision period ranges from 1 to 3 months, depending on the complexity of the topic and the availability of the reviewers involved. The standard editorial workflow is as follows: Submission → Review → Decision → Revision (if requested) → Acceptance → Publication. Authors will be notified of the review outcome via email.

It was founded in 1997 under the name “SITOX Informa,” under the presidency of Prof. Rodolfo Paoletti, Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology, and the editorship of Prof. Patrizia Hrelia, Full Professor of Pharmacology.
