Abstract

The establishment of the Civic Archaeological Museum of Angera in 1974 marked a pivotal moment in the city's history, bringing an end to a troubled period of dispersal of its local archaeological heritage. However, a careful review of archival documents dating from the late 19th century to 1939 shows that the city of Angera's interest in preserving and promoting its heritage actually began much earlier, even shedding light on the existence of a “Museum before the Museum”.
