IL TRANSFER NELL’INTERCOMPRENSIONE DEI TEMPI VERBALI IN ITALIANO: UNO STUDIO SU DISCENTI UNIVERSITARI DI SPAGNOLO IN SVEZIA

Lo studio esamina il ruolo del transfer nell’intercomprensione dei tempi verbali italiani da parte di studenti di spagnolo alla luce di tre fattori: la competenza, lo status linguistico, e il tipo di variante di spagnolo conosciuto dai discenti. Ventuno studenti universitari in Svezia hanno completato un questionario sociolinguistico e tre test: un test di completamento in spagnolo e due test di interpretazione, uno in spagnolo e uno in italiano, quest’ultimo provvisto di domande introspettive. I risultati mostrano una comprensione elevata dei tempi verbali italiani determinata da un uso strategico delle conoscenze in spagnolo. Ciononostante, l’estrema somiglianza tra queste due lingue porta ad assumere più corrispondenze di quelle realmente esistenti, evidente nella tendenza, soprattutto da parte degli studenti con L1 spagnolo, ad accettare il passato remoto in misura estesa.
The transfer in the intercomprehension of verb tenses in Italian: a study of university students of Spanish in Sweden
The study examines the role of transfer in the intercomprehension of Italian tenses among students of Spanish in light of three factors: proficiency, language status, and the type of linguistic variety known by the learners. Twenty-one university students in Sweden completed a sociolinguistic questionnaire and three tests: a fill-in-the-blank test in Spanish and two interpretation tests, one in Spanish and one in Italian. The Italian test was complemented by introspective questions. The results show an advanced comprehension of Italian tenses determined by a strategic use of knowledge in Spanish. Nonetheless, the extreme similarity between these languages leads them to assume more correspondences than the existing ones, especially for students with Spanish as L1 who tend to extensively accept the Italian tense passato remoto.
