Abstract

This essay analyses Nicolò Lipari’s contribution to the birth and growth of the sociology of law in Italy. Although he was a jurist, Lipari considered the contribution of the sociology of law to be fundamental, especially in order to offer an interpretation of the legal norm that, in addition to the textual data, would take into account the social context in which the norm was to operate.

The analysis is carried out using some essays published in this journal and others, in which the relationship between legal science and the sociology of law constitutes the crucial issue of his research.
