Abstract

The essay deals with Orwell's authorial role in Nineteen Eighty-Four and the errors that he deliberately inserted in the novel. In particular, the pattern of dates and the general distribution of weekdays in the novel are tackled.

Author Biography

Paolo Caponi, Università degli Studi di Milano

Paolo Caponi is Research Fellow at the University of Milan where he teaches English Drama and English Culture.
He has written mainly on Elizabethan theatre and contemporary theatre and cinema. He has cooperated extensively with the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
Among his publications: Adultery in the High Canon. Forms of Infidelity in Joyce, Beckett and Pinter (2000) and a book on Lolita’s pre- and afterlife (Bambole di carne. Lolita prima e dopo il romanzo, 2008).
