Università degli Studi di Milano

Aristonothos. Rivista di Studi sul Mediterraneo Antico is an academic journal peer-reviewed and open access which is inspired by the ethical code developed by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. It is necessary that all the subjects involved – Management, Editorial staff, Scientific Committee, Authors and Referees – know and share the following ethical requirements.

Duties of the Management and the Editorial staff of the Journal

Judgment on publication

The Journal Management is responsible for deciding whether or not to publish the proposed articles. The Management may refer to the Scientific Committee of the Journal and is bound by the requirements of the laws in force on defamation, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The Management may consult other members of the editorial staff or referee in making their decisions.

Fairness

The Management evaluates the articles proposed for publication on the basis of their content, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship, political orientation of the Authors.

Confidentiality

The Management and any Member of the Editorial Team must not disclose any information on a typescript submitted for evaluation by the Journal to anyone other than the corresponding Author, potential Referee, Editorial consultants and Publisher, as the case may be.

Conflict of Interest and dissemination

Unpublished materials contained in a submitted typescript must not be used in research by a Director or by a Member of the Editorial Team without the explicit written consent of the Author.

Duties of Referees

Contribution to editorial judgment

Through a rigorous double-blind peer review procedure, the Referees assist the Management and the Editorial staff in the evaluation of the proposed texts and can suggest changes to the Author to improve their work.

Respect of deadlines

The Referee who does not feel adequate for the proposed task or who knows that he / she cannot carry out the reading within the scheduled time is required to promptly notify the Management or the Editorial Manager.

Confidentiality

Any text assigned for reading must be considered confidential. Therefore, these texts must not be discussed with other people without the explicit authorization of the Management.

Objectivity

Peer-review must be conducted objectively. Any personal judgment on the Author is inappropriate. Referees are required to adequately justify their judgments.

Indications of texts to quote

The Referees undertake to precisely indicate the bibliographic details of fundamental works possibly neglected by the Author. The Referee must also report to the Management any similarities or overlaps of the text received for reading with other works known to him.

Conflict of Interest and dissemination

Information or indications obtained during the peer-review process must be considered confidential and cannot be used for personal purposes. Referees are required not to accept for reading articles for which there is a conflict of interest due to previous collaborative or competitive relationships with the Author and / or with his / her Institution.

Duties of the Authors

Data access and retention

If the Management deems it appropriate, the authors of the articles should also make available the sources or data on which the research is based, so that they can be kept for a reasonable period after publication and possibly made accessible.

Originality and plagiarism

Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and / or words of others, that this has been appropriately indicated or quoted.

Multiple, repetitive and / or concurrent publications

The Author should not publish articles describing the same research in more than one journal. Proposing the same text to more than one journal at the same time constitutes ethically incorrect and unacceptable behavior.

Indication of sources

The Author must always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.

Authorship of the work

The authorship of the work must be correctly attributed and all those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, organization, implementation and reworking of the research that is the basis of the article must be indicated as co-authors. If other people have significantly participated in some phases of the research, their contribution must be explicitly recognized. In the case of contributions written by several hands, the Author who sends the text to the Journal is required to declare that he has correctly indicated the names of all the other co-authors, that he has obtained their approval of the final version of the article and their consent to publication in the Journal.

Errors in published articles

When an Author discovers a significant error or inaccuracies in his published work, he is obliged to promptly notify the Management of the Journal or the Publisher and collaborate with them to withdraw or correct the text.

Rights of the Authors

The Authors retain the rights to their work and assign to the Journal the right of first publication of the work, simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons License - Attribution 4.0 International which allows others to share the work indicating the intellectual authorship and the first publication on this Journal.
