Abstract

The article analyzes two excerpts from letters that Cosa Nostra soldier Joe Valachi sent to journalist Peter Maas, recalling the value of his testimony and the story of his memoir, whose publication was blocked by the US Department of Justice following protests by some leaders of the Italian-American community.
