Abstract

This article introduces a new approach to media literacy based on collaborative cultures and contents generated or shared by young people in social networks and new interactive media. In this context, the article defines ‘transmedia literacy’ and presents the objectives, methodologies and outcomes of a research on teens’ transmedia skills developed in informal learning environments. The research, carried out in 8 countries between 2015-18, produced a map of transmedial skills and, at the same time, developed a kit to introduce and “exploit” in the classroom the media knowledge and practices developed by young people in informal learning environments.
