Diverse definizioni di infinito si intrecciano nell’opera di Rousseau. Nei suoi testi di carattere normativo, il ‘vero’ infinito di Dio viene contrapposto a un infinito prodotto dalla nostra immaginazione, dal quale derivano tutte le nostre sofferenze. Tale contrapposizione è invece assente negli scritti autobiografici, dove Rousseau individua nell’immaginazione una fonte indispensabile di felicità, giungendo a formulare una nuova forma di infinito: l’infinito estatico.Downloads
