La lezione di Tucidide nell’opera hobbesiana

La prima opera pubblicata da Hobbes è la traduzione della Guerra del Peloponneso di Tucidide. Nonostante la prima fase della produzione hobbesiana venga spesso sottovalutata o trattata come una fase a sé stante, la frequentazione, l'assimilazione e l'apprezzamento del lavoro del grande storico greco non solo hanno contribuito in maniera decisiva alla genesi del pensiero di Hobbes, ma si fanno anche sentire con forza e continuità nel corso del tempo, tanto nell'antropologia quanto nella filosofia politica hobbesiane, d’altronde indissolubilmente legate. L'acquisizione della lezione di Tucidide emerge inoltre addirittura in maniera esemplare in una delle ultime opere di Hobbes, il Behemoth.
