Abstract

“Paesaggi d’Acque” (Wetlands) Survey Project has been carried out by the University of Milan around the coastal lagoon of Orbetello (Grosseto, Tuscany) and the Argentario Mount. It aims at understanding the human-environment relationships in this special and marginal territory, as well as at reconstructing its ancient landscapes from Palaeolithic to Late Roman period. Archaeological data have been employer on a digital GIS system, to permit diacrhonical reading of landscape and to help land protection.

Author Biography

Matteo Dolci, Università degli Studi di Milano

Matteo Dolci achieved his PhD title in Ancient Topography at the Università degli Studi di Salerno during the academic year 2002-2003. In 2004 he got a Research Grant for the Chair of Ancient Topography of the University of Milan. In detail, he studies settlements and road structures of Roman and Early Mediaeval ages in Transpadana, and directs survey projects in Southern Tuscany, Friuli Venezia Giulia and North-Western Lombardy.
