Abstract

The reconsideration of the small silver foil epigraph of the so called “Tesoro di Marengo” clarly demonstrates that the inscription has been made not “per mezzo di punzoni e stampi”, as proposed by the first publisher and never more discussed, but using a deep-drawing technique applied to the upper side, which the succeeding phases of deepening, rethink, corrections to many imperfections can be followed of.

Antonio Sartori, University of Milan

Antonio Sartori is Associate Professor in Latin Epigraphy at the Università degli Studi di Milano – Department of Antiquity Sciences. In particular, he looks after the enhancement of Latin epigraphs, above all in the Lombard area, for which he published /edited the Catalogues of the Epigraphic Collections of Milan, Comi, Arsago Seprio and, now, of the Ambrosiana Library. Other main topics are the ntegration phaenimena between Roman immigrants and local inhabitants; Latin epigraphy as mass means of communication; habits and rules of page layout in Latin epigraphs.
