Abstract

The role of informal learning of Italian as a foreign language in stimulating the metacognitive reflection of Italian philology students. Example of Italian-language films and series

The aim of the article is to identify the extent to which Polish students of Italian philology benefit from the possibilities offered by modern digital tools for informal learning through Italian-language films and series and how this activity stimulates their metacognitive awareness and self-awareness in the field of foreign language learning. The survey results presented in the article show that films and TV series are an important way of spending time for “Generation Z” students and that audiovisual materials not only provide valuable learning affordances but also support taking responsibility for their own learning.
