«TUTTI UGUALI I MUSULMANI». ANALISI CORPUS-BASED DEGLI ENUNCIATI NOMINALI CON FOCALIZZAZIONE A SINISTRA NELL’HATE SPEECH

Lo scopo di questo lavoro è analizzare la struttura sintattica e l’uso di una particolare tipologia di enunciato nominale (EN) esclamativo nel contesto dell’hate speech. Per farlo, si utilizzerà il framework teorico degli approcci non-sentenzialiste e, in particolar modo, ci si rifarà all’assunto della Generalizzazione Xmax, adattata al Programma Minimalista, secondo cui il nodo iniziale di una produzione linguistica non è di default la frase (IP), bensì la proiezione massimale che può effettivamente essere inferita dai dati empirici e attuata con un approccio bottom-up. Grazie alla flessibilità della Generalizzazione Xmax, che permette di teorizzare una classe di EN con un sintagma di Focus (FocP) come nodo iniziale, si analizzeranno gli EN esclamativi con il predicato in posizione preverbale (interessante, questo libro!) nel contesto dell’hate speech, il quale è stato scarsamente indagato sul fronte della sintassi. Grazie ai dati empirici del corpus HaSpEN, si vedranno le due casistiche principali di EN esclamativi, caratterizzati dall’elemento in posizione preverbale: a) quelli con un PP (fuori i migranti dall'Italia) o AdvP focalizzato (via gli stranieri dall’Italia); b) quelli con un NP, un DP o un AP focalizzato (tutti uguali i musulmani).
«Tutti uguali i musulmani». Corpus-based analysis of nominal utterances with focus in hate speech
This paper aims to analyze the syntactic structure and use of a particular type of exclamatory nominal utterance (NU) in the context of hate speech. In order to achieve this goal, we will use the theoretical framework of non-sententialist approaches and, more precisely, we will take as a reference the Xmax Generalization adapted to the Minimalist Program. Thus, we will base our analysis on the assumption that the derivation of a structure is not a sentence (IP) by default, but it is the maximal projection that can actually be inferred by the available evidence and with a bottom-up approach. Thanks to the flexibility of Xmax Generalization, which allows for theorizing a class of NUs with a Focus phrase (FocP) as its initial node, we will analyze exclamatory NUs with the predicate in preverbal position (interessante, questo libro! /interesting, this book!) in hate speech, which syntax has been rarely investigated. Using empirical data from the HaSpEN corpus, we will look at the two main kinds of exclamatory NUs characterized by the element in preverbal position: a) those with a focused PP (fuori i migranti dall'Italia /out immigrants from Italy) or AdvP (via gli stranieri dall’Italia /away foreigners from Italy); b) those with a focused NP, DP or AP (tutti uguali i musulmani /all Muslims (are) the same).
