Abstract

Between theory and practice. Translations and poetic rewritings from Ovidio to Pascoli

Starting from some reflections on the translation of the poetic text, the paper follows some rewrites of the Ovidian myth of Orpheus and Eurydice: from Browning’s ekphrasis to a Leighton painting; the revival of the myth in D’Annunzio’s Laus vitae; the presence of Hermes in Rilke’s poem Orpheus, Euridike Hermes. The essay concludes by analyzing Shelley’s Time long past translated by Pascoli.
