APROXIMACIÓN AL ESTUDIO DEL PAISAJE LINGÜÍSTICO VIRTUAL DE LA MIGRACIÓN (PLVM): ESTRATEGIAS DE NAMING EN LAS PÁGINAS WEB DE RESTAURANTES HISPANOAMERICANOS EN ITALIA

Il concetto di Paesaggio Linguistico (PL), tradizionalmente circoscritto allo spazio fisico – strade, esercizi commerciali, istituzioni – ha subito un’importante estensione con il suo trasferimento nel ciber-spazio, oggi inteso come ambito pubblico di interazione sociale. In questo contesto emerge una nozione di Paesaggio Linguistico Virtuale (PLV), che offre nuove prospettive per l’analisi delle pratiche comunicative in ambienti digitali. Il presente studio si inserisce in questa linea di ricerca, integrandola con i lavori sviluppati in Italia sul Paesaggio Linguistico della Migrazione (PLM). In particolare, si analizza la autorappresentazione delle comunità ispanico-americane in Italia attraverso i siti web dei ristoranti gestiti da tali comunità, proponendo una prima esplorazione del Paesaggio Linguistico Virtuale della Migrazione (PLVM) ispanico-americano nel contesto italiano. Basandosi su un corpus di 44 siti web di ristoranti selezionati secondo criteri di rappresentatività geografica e concentrazione di popolazione migrante, l’analisi si concentra in particolare sulle strategie di naming e sugli elementi che contribuiscono alla costruzione dell’immagine online degli esercizi. Lo studio offre, innanzitutto, una panoramica del PLVM ispanico-americano in Italia nell’ambito della gastronomia e della ristorazione, settore particolarmente rappresentativo per i migranti e rilevante per la comunità ospitante. In secondo luogo, mette in luce le strategie di autorappresentazione linguistica e identitaria attraverso le pratiche di denominazione e l’uso delle lingue sul web. Nel complesso, lo studio contribuisce a definire lo status sociolinguistico delle comunità ispaniche in Italia da una prospettiva innovativa: la loro manifestazione nel Paesaggio Linguistico Virtuale, non sempre coincidente con quella osservata nello spazio fisico.
An approach to the virtual linguistic landscape of migration (VLLM): naming strategies on the websites of hispano-american restaurants in Italy
The concept of Linguistic Landscape (LL), traditionally confined to physical space –streets, establishments, institutions – has undergone a significant expansion with its extension to cyberspace, now understood as a public sphere of social interaction. Within this framework emerges a notion of the Virtual Linguistic Landscape (VLL), which offers new perspectives for the analysis of communicative practices in digital environments. This study aligns with this research trend by integrating it with work carried out in Italy on the Linguistic Landscape of Migration (LLM). Specifically, it examines the self-representation of Hispano-American communities in Italy through the websites of restaurants they manage, proposing an initial exploration of the Virtual Linguistic Landscape of Migration (VLLM) in the Italian context. Based on a corpus of 44 restaurant websites selected according to geographic representativeness and the concentration of migrant populations, the analysis focuses on naming strategies and other factors shaping the online image of these establishments. The study first provides an overview of the Hispano-American Virtual Linguistic Landscape (VLLM) in Italy within the domain of gastronomy and restaurant culture, a sector that is highly representative of migrant visibility and meaningful for the host society. It then highlights the linguistic and identity self-representation strategies expressed through naming practices and language use on the web. Overall, the research contributes to redefining the sociolinguistic status of Hispanic communities in Italy from an innovative standpoint: their presence within the Virtual Linguistic Landscape, which does not always mirror that observed in the physical environment.
