Concordia vs Memory? Memorial Legislation of the Spanish State and Autonomous Communities Tested by Shifting Political Balances
The essay aims at highlighting the memorial laws passed by the Spanish Parliament and by a few Autonomous Communities whose political scenario is different from the national one. If the governmental parties, at the national level, have approved memorial laws which guarantee the memory of Franco’s regime victims, the purpose of more recent regional laws is to refuse the national legislative trend, embracing a different orientation: to boost the so-called concordia, not reopening the dramatic past of Franco’s regime.
