Abstract

The sound performance Haunted (Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, 2024) stems from the discovery of magnetic tapes from a radio archive that was irreparably damaged by a flood. Rather than aiming to restore or repair the archive, the work approaches it through the concept of "haunting," allowing for its creative and sonic re-emergence in a spectral, evocative form, rather than a fixed and permanent one. This paper is divided into two parts. The first, as an introduction, explores the theoretical background of Haunted, particularly the connections between hauntology, emotional archives, performativity, and sound. The second part examines the performance itself, focusing on the sound dramaturgy — which I co-wrote with the author in my role as dramaturg — by analyzing the role and function of specific sound devices and sources that were conceived and employed during the performance.
