About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Nóema is an Open Access journal of philosophy and culture, mainly dedicated to themes of theoretical philosophy, oriented towards contemporary studies of genealogy, thought of practices, phenomenology, hermeneutics. The journal accepts contributions from different fields - philosophy of science, philosophy of history, logic, ethics, aesthetics, economic and biological studies - as long as they are not rigidly sectoral and open to transdisciplinary dialogue.

Starting from 2018, Nóema publishes one issue per year, which consists of a monographic issue dedicated to a specific topic indicated in a Call for Papers (CFP). All essays and contributions proposed to the journal will be submitted to blind peer review processes conducted by external experts and accepted on the basis of their compliance with the theme proposed in the CFP and with the editorial line of the journal. In conjunction with the release of each issue, the CFP of the next issue and the corresponding deadline are also published.

Nóema maintains its scientific vocation based on editorial meetings and open to an ongoing transdisciplinary dialogue with other cultural realities. For this reason, the members of the editorial staff, together with the Director and the Scientific Committee, will continue to request texts by invitation, which will in any case be subjected to the peer review process. The editorial staff may also propose material elaborated in various ways, in an active discussion mood, in relation to the interests and research paths that will gradually emerge. We believe that a magazine of philosophy and culture should not be a mere container of materials selected and judged elsewhere, according to rules imposed from above, but that it should find its own space for proposal by appealing to the decisions and responsibility of those who coordinate common works. There will always be, therefore, a balance between essays published by 'invitation' and contributions in response to the peer review. Scientific responsibility for the product ultimately remains the prerogative of the Steering Committee alone.

Editorial policy

The journal publishes articles without any charge (processing or publishing costs) to authors

Peer Review Process

The journal publishes articles free of charge (processing or publication costs) for the authors.

The scientific quality of the works published in the Journal is ensured by a peer review procedure, implemented according to the principles of transparency, autonomy and undisputed scientific prestige of the reviewers who are gradually invited to participate. The editorial staff of the journal thanks those who agree to carry out this important function.

Each work subject to the procedure will be examined anonymously by reviewers who will express their opinion by formulating it through a standard form, which will be kept in the editorial repository and can be sent for inspection at the request of the interested parties. Publication of each article presupposes the favorable opinion of the reviewers and, ultimately, of the Steering Committee.

The judgment is based on the following parameters: contribution of the essay to the research in terms of theoretical originality; quality of argumentation and organization of thematic content; style and clarity of the exposition; breadth of bibliographic references and mastery of the ongoing debate on the topic; consistency with the Mission of Nóema.
