English abstract: The influence of the Risorgimento’s ideology aims at make central, in the end of 1800’s Italy, the themes of the State’s construction and of the citizens’s education, and it stimulates the same Giovanni Vailati, followed by his disciple Mario Calderoni, to tack a discourse about the make culture’s educational value and to attribute to the man of learning the role of highest educator. The vailatian debate about «liberal education» concerns on three areas of discussion: a] «knowledge’s unity» as educational ideal; b] definition of philosophy; c] definition of history of the sciences.
