IL PROGETTO OIM (OSSERVATORIO DEGLI ITALIANISMI NEL MONDO)

Abstract

L’Osservatorio degli Italianismi nel Mondo (OIM) è uno dei progetti strategici dell’Accademia della Crusca e viene portato avanti da un largo gruppo internazionale di ricercatori. Il progetto intende costituirsi come punto di riferimento per la raccolta, revisione e disseminazione degli italianismi rintracciati nelle diverse lingue del mondo. L’accurata descrizione e analisi dei risultati del contatto tra italiano e altre lingue (tipologicamente e storicamente diversificato a seconda delle lingue coinvolte) richiede approfondite considerazioni di tipo metodologico, filologico e lessicologico. Alla base del progetto – nella prospettiva di lessicografia digitale – si colloca il database contenente le raccolte di italianismi nelle lingue europee ed extraeuropee. Nel contributo presentato in questa sezione, diviso in due parti, si offre un panorama delle prospettive di ricerca messe a punto per il compito che attende i ricercatori e che caratterizzano attualmente il lavoro.  
Nella sezione introduttiva si ricostruisce la storia del progetto, mentre nella successiva si descrive il funzionamento del database, i criteri usati per la raccolta degli italianismi e la presentazione delle entrate lessicografiche; si affrontano inoltre questioni legate alla semantica dei prestiti e si offre infine una panoramica delle prospettive future del progetto OIM.

The OIM project (Osservatorio degli Italianismi nel Mondo)

The Osservatorio degli Italianismi nel Mondo (OIM), an observatory of Italian loanwords in languages throughout the world, is among the strategic projects of the National Academy of the Italian language, Accademia della Crusca. The project is carried out by a vast international group of researchers and is intended to be a point of reference for the collection, review and dissemination of Italianisms found in many different languages worldwide. The accurate description and analysis of the results of multi-faceted and historically diverse language contact situations involving Italian as a donor language requires both methodological and in-depth lexical-philological considerations. The digital lexicographic tool which the project rests upon has at its core a database containing collections of Italianisms in both European and extra-European language varieties. This paper, divided into two main sections, provides an overview of the research perspectives that have eventually brought forth the OIM endeavor and characterize its current lines of work. In the introductory part the history of the project is recounted while the following parts address the set-up of the database, the criteria for collecting data on Italianisms, the lexicographical entries as well as semantic questions regarding loanwords and finally offer an outlook on future work within the OIM.
