BACKGROUND
Work-related stress is defined as a condition in which the worker perceives the demands placed on him or her as exceeding his or her capabilities or resources. The main adverse organizational effects are reduced performance, increased absenteeism, injury rates, burnout, and the intention to leave the profession prematurely.
PURPOSE
To measure work-related stress due to psychosocial factors among operating room nurses using the COPSOQ II short validated in Italian.
METHODS
A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with a sample of Operating Room Nurses of one the major Lombardy healthcare facility. It was administered online (Forms Platform) and completed anonymously from October 7, 2023, to November 10, 2023.
RESULTS
Most nurses did not perceive that they were exposed to high psychosocial risk (only 16.6% of responses showed an average in the high-risk range). Substantial agreement of nurses' perceived psychosocial risk concerns only the Work Pace dimension for both items (m=6.08; M=3 and 3 and IQR 1 and 1.25).
CONCLUSIONS
The COPSOQ helps monitor a set of variables that can create difficulties for the individual nurse or nursing team. A safe psychosocial climate may be correlated with better job satisfaction.
