Delirium is a common disorder that affects a significant percentage of the hospitalized population, with negative impacts on health and healthcare costs. This research aims to identify the risk factors for the development of delirium and analyze the most effective preventive strategies. A literature review was conducted using PubMed, Cinahl, Embase, and the Joanna Briggs Institute. The results highlight that there are both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to prevent delirium, with particular effectiveness of non-pharmacological strategies, such as the HELP (Hospital Elder Life Program) protocols and the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines. The analysis shows that delirium manifests variably, depending on individual vulnerability and risk factors. Therefore, the most effective preventive strategy is not standardized but must be personalized according to the patient's specific needs.
