Abstract

BACKGROUND: Ensuring a good quality clinical learning environment is essential to providing students with an effective internship experience capable of generating meaningful learning. Students' opinions about their perception of the clinical internship experience are one of the aspects to be taken into consideration for the evaluation the quality of clinical learning.

AIMS: The general objective is to understand, through the degree of satisfaction, whether the current organizational structure of the Nursing Degree Course internships at the University of Bari responds to the students' learning needs.

METHODS: The multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted at the University of Bari. A total of 324 first-year nursing students completed the Italian version of the CLES+T questionnaire.

RESULTS: The average score found in the global analysis of the CLES+T questionnaires was 3.8 (out of a maximum of 5 points). In general, the quality of care and environments is clearly considered good, but the level of satisfaction begins to decrease in the items related to the tutorial relationship (3.7). There were also considerable differences between the different teaching locations.

CONCLUSIONS: The results confirm that, although the University of Bari has an overall good baseline score for internship quality, there are locations and Dimensions with very low evaluations, in which it is necessary to ensure a good and fair quality of clinical learning.
