The evaluation of the quality of the clinical internship and the satisfaction of students of courses of study in Nursing even during the COVID-19 pandemic

Professional internships represent a core component of the education of students enrolled in Health Professions degree programs, as they are essential for the development of professional competencies, diagnostic reasoning, and critical thinking. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of clinical experience evaluation questionnaires as tools for optimizing nursing internship pathways, both for degree program planning and organization and for students themselves. A literature review was conducted using the P.I.C.O. framework to investigate whether self-assessment questionnaires of clinical internship experiences in nursing practice are useful for understanding students’ levels of satisfaction. The findings indicate that all included studies consistently highlight the importance of assessing nursing students’ satisfaction with their internship experiences. When appropriately designed and implemented, clinical internships represent a key educational strategy capable of enhancing student motivation, supporting the acquisition of professional competencies, fostering professional identity development, and promoting anticipatory socialization to the workplace.
